Mud Paintings
Mud Paintings 2007 Materials: mud, pastel, pigment on paper These were completed during a residency on Westport Island in Maine. The movement of the tides shaped the waterways in the nearby tidal marsh. The material being shaped was mud, and the mud was full of critters, most of them too small to see. The primary material for these pieces was the local mud itself, until I felt it wasn’t OK to be killing all those critters. The process of creating the paintings followed an ebb and flow cycle, to mirror the process creating the marsh itself.
